Our Future World: Going, going…gone?

According to the CSIRO Our Future World report the megatrend ‘Going, going…gone?’ is concerned with the perilous situation of the world’s ecological habitats and biodiversity where impacts have resulted in more consumption, the decline in habitats, plant species and animal species, increased greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. This trend also explores positive changes and a possibly bright future as whilst the state of biodiversity is in decline, the pressure for change and human response is increasing.

At Redox, we are committed to implementing practical environmental initiatives which lessen our impact on the environment. As such we have installed photovoltaic solar generation systems across five Australian sites in an effort utilise more sustainable resources. With a generation capacity of 3,200kW hours per day, the use of solar powered generation systems allows us to be one step closer in having minimal impact on the environment, decreasing our CO2 emissions by 1,280,000 kg per annum - equivalent to 280 passenger cars or 5,380 computers.

We understand the importance of sustainability and ethical business practices that ensure the long term health and existence of the world’s ecological habituate and biodiversity. As such, we are members of various industry associations that not only set standards but also regulate ethical sourcing supply chains that ensure labour rights, health and safety, the environment and business ethics are uncompromised. Redox is currently a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), Sedex, EcoVadis, National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) and Chemistry Australia’s Responsible Care Program.

We have also expanded our product portfolio to include sustainable alternatives to ensure we not only minimise our impact on the environment but that we meet the growing demand of our increasing population. For example, our plant-based proteins are a sustainable solution to meat-based protein which as an industry is responsible for 14.5% of the world’s greenhouse gas emission. Plant protein production offers a lower environmental impact by reducing energy consumption, emissions, water consumption and land usage, while also being a healthy dietary option.

Our Future World: More for Less

According to the CSIRO Our Future World report the megatrend ‘More for Less’ explores how companies, governments and communities will discover new ways of ensuring quality of life for current and future generations within the confines of the natural world’s limited resources. With global water demand forecast to increase by 55% from the year 2000 to 2050, and the concerns that climate change present, managing global water scarcity is important in safeguarding quality of life.

At Redox, our products are making an important contribution to the efficient and responsible use and reuse of water, enabling governments, companies and individuals to optimise water resources while attending to our shared environmental responsibilities.

Our products are vital to desalination projects which replace scarce inland fresh water sources and retain environmental flows needed for the healthy functioning of our river systems. Our filtration media and chemical treatment options remove heavy metals, biological or physical contaminations from industrial waste water leaving it clean and ready for reuse or return to nature.

Tapping into aquifers through the use of bores can also provide an important source of water for many remote communities, along with Redox’s many anti-fouling acid products which can keep them functioning at peak capacity.

Our associations with industry groups and professionals places us at the forefront of new water technologies and innovations, market demands and consumer expectations, allowing us to help in the preservation of clean water ways, promoting standards for education and training, and the protection of public health.

Product Focus - SUMIPEX® Labware Grade

Distributed by Redox, SUMIPEX® Labware Grade is a specialty grade of Polymethyl Methacrylate resin (PMMA), a transparent thermoplastic commonly known as acrylic, designed specifically for laboratory ware. Its high glass transition temperature and strength means that it is a versatile material, often used as a lightweight, shatter-resistant alternative to glass.

With a growing predisposition towards high performance polymers, particularly in the medical industry and laboratory applications, PMMA is a practical alternative over conventional polymers such as polycarbonate (PC) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Innovations in PMMA have resulted in properties such as UV tolerance, resistance towards lipids and phthalates, reliability and biocompatibility.

The outstanding properties of SUMIPEX® Labware Grade include:

  • Unparalleled transparency and lustre
  • Excellent weather resistance
  • Unmatched surface hardness
  • Excellent electrical resistance
  • Superior mechanical property
  • Harmless to humans
  • Environmentally-friendly, easy to recycle

SUMIPEX® is the registered trademark of our manufacturing partner Sumitomo Chemical’s PMMA. As Asia’s largest integrated producer of Methyl Methacrylate, their plants allow vertical integration from raw material to products and customers. These state-of-the-art facilities enable Redox to deliver specific grades to customers to further advance the needs of various industry segments, and that valuable competitive edge.
