History

Redox has grown from humble beginnings to become one of the leading chemical, ingredients and raw material distributors in the world.

Bit by bit, inch by inch we expanded and re-invested in facilities and staff, exploring new industry sectors and new markets. The story of Redox has been shaped by the persistence and dedication to customer service of the Coneliano family who maintain majority ownership and are still involved with daily operations. Today we proudly serve tens of thousands of customers from every industry across the globe.

1965

The beginning

Redox was originally established in North Sydney by founder Roland Coneliano as a partnership named C&K Industrial Traders. The Company dealt primarily as manufacturers representatives dealing in importation of chemicals from Eastern Europe and selling them to local distributors and merchants.

Milestone

C&K Industrial Traders was awarded the agency to represent the USSR Chemical Industry in Australia.

1970

Our first move

The Company, having grown steadily, moved to a larger premises in Waterloo and was incorporated in the same year as C&K Industrial Traders Pty Ltd.

1974

Redox Chemicals Pty Ltd

The Company was renamed Redox Chemicals Pty Ltd. The name communicated the Company's prime business function and importantly marked the commencement of selling products directly to end users.

1976

First owned warehouse

Redox's growth dictated a need for the Company to warehouse its own products. To facilitate this an office and warehouse complex was constructed on land owned by the Company in Botany. All operations were transferred to this site.

1983

Technology

Redox purchased its first computer, a single screen Canon CX1.

1986

Melbourne

Redox established an office in a terrace house in Melbourne to meet the needs of customers based in Victoria.

1987

Perth

An office in Perth, Western Australia was established.

1988

Wetherill Park, Sydney

Faced with an exponential growth rate, forward planning was necessary to cater for the expansion. To this end Redox purchased a one hectare site at Wetherill Park, Sydney to provide room for projected growth. An environmental impact study was commissioned and after a 6 month investigation the completed report was submitted to authorities.

Brisbane

Redox established an office in Brisbane, Queensland.

1991

Year of expansion

Despite an economic recession , 1991 marked a year of expansion. Having commissioned the successful environmental impact study, a two storey office block and hazardous storage warehousing facility was designed and constructed on the 10,000m2 site purchased in Wetherill Park, and was officially opened in February 1991.

Year of expansion

Redox opened an Adelaide branch and Melbourne relocated to a larger site occupying a 5000m2 warehouse, incorporating a bulk storage and bagging facility.

1993

ISO 9002

Redox was awarded national certification as a quality endorsed company in accordance with ISO 9002 quality systems, indicative of the company's policy to ensure fulfilment of customers' requirements. Further construction of Redox's Wetherill Park site provided an increase in office space of 50% and 75% in warehouse area.

1994

Auckland, New Zealand

Phenomenal growth in sales funded a move into New Zealand, with an office established in Auckland, to provide suppliers with a familiar partner in the market and to better serve clients with Trans Tasman affiliations.

1996

Responsible Care

Redox became a member of the Australian Chemical Industry Council, committed to the abiding principles of Responsible Care.

1997

Bulk chemical handling

The Melbourne office transferred to a newly purchased Laverton North site after the successful installation and commission of bulk chemical handling equipment at the new site.

1999

Milestone

Sales reach AU$108 million, exceeding Redox' goal of AU$100 million by the year 2000. The Company embarked on the third and final expansion of the Wetherill Park site. As a result of this construction, the office area increased by a further 55% and warehouses doubled in size.

2000

Growth

Construction commenced on the new 35,000m2 Adelaide office and warehouse complex in Dry Creek. An increase in exposure to the agriculture sector due to an acquisition of a trading business enabled Redox to establish a branch in Christchurch, New Zealand.

2001

Further expansion

6 hectares of industrial land was purchased in Minto to allow for the expansion of the Sydney office and consolidation of storage on one site, as it was clear Redox would outgrow the Wetherill Park site. The Adelaide, Dry Creek site is completed and occupied, and land is purchased at Bibra lake to allow expansion of the Perth office.

2003

Bibra Lake, Western Australia

Construction of the first stage of the 2.5 hectare site in Bibra Lake, Western Australia is completed.

2005

Sydney headquarters

Completion of the $11 million purpose built corporate headquarters and NSW distribution centre at Minto, featuring a modern three storey office facility for sales and administration staff, and a two storey transport office for warehouse and support staff.

40th Anniversary

To reflect the evolving nature of the business and to celebrate Redox's 40th birthday, a new logo was designed.

2008

NSW distribution centre

Commenced construction of stage 2 of our NSW distribution centre in Sydney that saw storage expanded by 30%, being 4700 extra pallet spaces, with the addition of a specialty food store.

2009

Milestone

Passed the company milestone of AU$100 million in net tangible assets.

2011

Brisbane

A new site was secured for Redox’s Brisbane operations, measuring 2.3 hectares.

2012

Expansion

Redox acquired the business of Bribros and Deltrex. Bribros added a new enhanced capability to service the plastics and rubber markets. The acquisition of Deltrex included two new sites, Sydney and Laverton, with the ability to custom blend and dilute a variety of items, while also expanding storage capabilities by around 8000 pallets. Redox established an office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Redebiz

Redox launched the new line of business software Redebiz, an integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) application, purpose built for the needs of Redox and its partners.

2015

California, USA

Redox expanded into the USA with the first sales office opening in California, with sales staff handling all enquiries for the North American market.

2017

Milestone

Sales exceeded AU$533 million.

Top 100 rankings

ICIS Chemical Business Magazine listed Redox as one of the largest chemical distributor in Asia, 111th largest in North America and 31st largest worldwide based on 2018 calendar year revenue (us$527m).

Redox the leading distributor of chemicals and ingredients in Australia has acquired the business of Optigen Ingredients Pty Ltd completing the transaction on the 25th of August 2023.

ICIS Chemical Business Magazine's 2024 Top 100 Chemical Distributors list has Redox now as the largest chemical distributor in Australia, 15th in the Asia-Pacific region, and 33rd globally (up from 34th).

Redox Ltd acquired Oleum Pty Ltd and Oleum Holdings Pty Ltd, a specialty and commodity chemicals distributor to the agriculture, mining, personal care and surface coatings sectors.
