About Palm Oil
Palm Oil is a vegetable oil derived from the fruit of the oil palm tree, primarily Elaeis guineensis. It is extracted from the fleshy mesocarp of the palm fruit through mechanical pressing and refining processes. Crude palm oil has a distinctive reddish-orange color due to its high carotenoid content, while refined palm oil is pale yellow to white and semi-solid at room temperature. Palm oil is composed predominantly of triglycerides with a balanced ratio of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, particularly palmitic acid and oleic acid. The oil palm is one of the most efficient oil-producing crops, yielding significantly more oil per hectare than other vegetable oil sources.
Palm oil’s unique composition provides functional properties including oxidative stability, semi-solid texture at ambient temperature, and neutral flavor profile, making it exceptionally versatile across multiple applications. Its fractionation into palm olein (liquid fraction) and palm stearin (solid fraction) further expands its utility.
