Distributed exclusively by Redox on behalf of Shell across Australia and New Zealand, Monopropylene Glycol (MPG) UPS is an ideal solvent used in a variety of applications within the food and beverage, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics industries.

MPG USP is the US Pharmacopoeia compliant grade of monopropylene glycol (MPG). It is a clear, colourless and practically odourless, hygroscopic liquid, completely soluble in water. MPG USP is miscible in all proportions with low molecular weight aliphatic alcohols and ketones. It is slightly to moderately soluble in aromatics hydrocarbon solvents and only slightly miscible with aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents.

Produced in Seraya Singapore, Shell Chemical’s MPG UPS is a grade that meets strict product quality and handling standards, which when combined with its unique properties makes it a highly versatile ingredient, and as such is used across different industries including:

  • Food and Beverage: It is widely used as a solvent for food and beverage ingredients such as flavours, food dyes, flavouring materials in the Tobacco industry, coffee based drinks, ice cream, whipped dairy products and soft drinks.
  • Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics: It is used in cosmetic products which benefit from its soluble properties when making lotions and creams, make up, hair preparation formulas and suntan products. It is also used in alcohol based hand sanitisers because of its humectant properties which stop the hands form drying out.

Shell is a global group of energy and petrochemical companies who use advanced technologies and take an innovative approach to help build a sustainable energy future.
