Magnesium oxide (MgO) has become an integral ingredient for products and processes in many industries with the global market expected to reach $5.3 billion USD by 2023, at a compound annual growth rate of 5.34%. Redox is a distributor of MgO to the animal feed industry across Australia and New Zealand.

MgO, also known as magnesia, is a white hygroscopic solid mineral that occurs naturally as periclase and is a good source for magnesium. It is used as a feed supplement within the animal feed industry to counter balance the nutrient content of fast growing pastures which have reduced levels of magnesium, and higher levels of carbohydrates and protein. Insufficient magnesium levels in the diets of grazing animals, such as beef cattle, dairy cattle and sheep, can cause a serious and fatal metabolic disorder known as Grass Tetany.  In dairy cattle, magnesium also helps raise the butter fat content of the milk and neutralises acidosis caused by high amounts of grain in their diet

MgO is a versatile mineral with uses across different industries. It is widely used as a refractory material and as an insulator in heat-resistant electrical cable due to its high thermal and low electrical conductivity characteristics. Its acid buffering capacity and related effectiveness in stabilising dissolved heavy metals is used extensively in the soil, water, air emissions and waste treatment industries. Within the medical industry it is used as an antacid for indigestion, magnesium supplement and short-term laxative. It is also a food additive within the food and beverage industry as an anti-caking agent.

Redox is a distributor of MgO across Australia and New Zealand, providing a connection between the world’s premier ingredient manufacturers and stock feed producers. Through constant interaction among our animal nutritionists, industry specialists and regulatory bodies we are at the forefront of the animal nutrition industry, delivering the benefits to you.
