Its acid buffering capacity and related effectiveness in stabilising dissolved heavy metals is used extensively in the soil, water, air emissions and waste treatment industries. Within the medical industry it is used as an antacid for indigestion, magnesium supplement and short-term laxative. It is also a food additive within the food and beverage industry as an anti-caking agent.
