About Polyvinyl Alcohol

Polyvinyl Alcohol, commonly abbreviated as PVA or PVOH, is a synthetic polymer with the chemical formula (C₂H₄O)ₙ. It is a water-soluble, biodegradable polymer that typically appears as a white to cream-colored powder or granular solid. Unlike most vinyl polymers, PVA is not prepared by direct polymerization of its corresponding monomer but is produced through the hydrolysis or alcoholysis of polyvinyl acetate. The degree of hydrolysis and molecular weight determine PVA’s properties, allowing for customization to suit specific application requirements.
