As recently announced, Redox was named Dow’s channel partner for industrial acrylic additives. This partnership enables Redox to take responsibility for distributing Dow’s advanced polymers, specifically designed to meet the needs of water treatment, mining, and mineral processing applications with unmatched efficiency.

The ACUMER™ range of scale inhibitors comprises Low Molecular Weight Polyacrylic acids and their corresponding sodium salts, offering a phosphorus-free solution for industries adhering to strict discharge water regulations.

Key Benefits of ACUMER™ Polymers:

  • Highly effective scale inhibition: Prevents the deposition of calcium carbonate, calcium sulphate, barium sulphate, and other low-solubility salts.
  • Versatile performance: Maintains effectiveness across a wide range of pH levels, water hardness, and temperatures.
  • Improved plant efficiency: Reduces scaling on surfaces, supporting better heat transfer and operational efficiency.

Let’s look at a few of these in more depth.

Performance of ACUMER™ Scale Inhibitors in Scale Control for Cooling and Boiler Systems

Cooling circuits are widely used across industries to dissipate heat by circulating water. However, recirculating water tends to accumulate impurities, leading to the precipitation of salts. These salts and other particles can form deposits on equipment surfaces, reducing heat transfer efficiency and increasing operational and maintenance costs.

To combat these challenges, Dow ACUMER™ polyacrylate water-soluble scale inhibitors effectively prevent scale formation in cooling systems, boilers, and evaporators. ACUMER™ Polymers work by dispersing salts to prevent deposition and modifying their structure, making scale less adhesive and easier to manage.

These inhibitors effectively address the particulate matter, including calcium carbonate, calcium sulphate, calcium phosphate, silica, silicate, silt, and iron, reducing their ability to stick to heat transfer surfaces and ensuring optimal system performance.

ACUMER™ 2000 Polymer

ACUMER™ 2000 is a high-performance acrylate copolymer specifically formulated to enhance the stabilization of phosphate-based water treatment systems. It also serves as an effective stabilizer in zinc-containing treatment programs. Additionally, ACUMER 2000 efficiently disperses common inorganic particulates and maintains its performance even under pH fluctuations.

Designed for high-alkaline storage stability, ACUMER™ 2000 allows for the convenient formulation of single-package water treatment solutions, making it a reliable choice for long-term use in demanding environments.

ACUMER™ 5000 Polymer

ACUMER™ 5000 is a proprietary multifunctional polymer with a molecular weight of 5000, specifically designed to inhibit silica and magnesium silicate scale formation. It effectively disperses colloidal silica and minimizes magnesium silicate scale buildup on heat transfer surfaces, ensuring optimal system performance.

Key Applications & Benefits:

  • Recirculating Cooling Circuits: ACUMER™ 5000 is highly effective in silica-limited cooling water systems, allowing silica concentrations of up to 300 ppm in recirculating water without causing scale or corrosion issues.
  • Boilers: With excellent hydrothermal stability, ACUMER™ 5000 is ideal for controlling magnesium silicate scale in boilers operating at pressures up to 900 psig. However, for boilers exceeding 600 psig, silica may carry over into the steam.

This combination of scale inhibition, stability, and versatility makes ACUMER™ 5000 a reliable solution for water treatment applications in both cooling circuits and high-pressure boilers.
