Supplying chemicals, ingredients and raw materials during periods of stability is easy, the real test comes when supply chains are disrupted, deadlines tighten or the usual solution is no longer available. Some of Redox USA’s strongest customer relationships have been forged in precisely these circumstances.

The past few years have been marked by COVID, the supply chain crunch, the Russia/Ukraine conflict, changing tariffs and trade flows and most recently the conflict in the middle east. These events have upended markets and meant distributors who were agile and responsive could solve serious customer issues creating enduring value.

One of the company’s earliest successes in the United States involved a customer that needed five containers of product during a period of significant port and longshore disruption. The material was required for production ahead of the holiday period, leaving little room for delay.

The customer could buy locally, where bulk truckloads were available sooner but at a higher price, or trust Redox to import the material more economically and deliver it within the required timeframe. A late shipment could have jeopardised the customer’s commitment to a national grocery chain and exposed it to vendor performance penalties.

Drawing on Redox’s global supplier and logistics relationships, the team selected an import route designed to avoid the worst of the congestion. Despite the difficult conditions, all five containers arrived on schedule. Redox retained the business for the following seven years.

Romeo Packing Company was one of Redox USA’s early customers, placing an order for fertiliser on lead time when Redox was still building its local inventory. More than a decade later, the relationship remains an important one for Redox.

Another early customer, Romeo Packing Company, presented a different challenge. At the time, Redox was still developing its local inventory position in the United States, while many customers were accustomed to purchasing from suppliers with stock immediately available. Romeo nevertheless agreed to order a container of fertilizer on indent with a lead time.

That initial order developed into a relationship that remains important to Redox more than a decade later. It demonstrated that customers do not always need a supplier to have every product sitting in a warehouse. Clear communication, reliable delivery and a willingness to work through the practical details can be just as valuable.

These capabilities developed steadily as Redox expanded in the United States. In the early years, freight, warehousing and financing were often more expensive, local networks were still being established and the team was learning how to operate effectively in a new market. Each successful shipment added experience and strengthened relationships with customers, suppliers, warehouses and transport providers.

Today, Redox USA has a broader presence across the country and considerably more options when a customer faces an unusual or urgent requirement. Its local capabilities are reinforced by Redox’s extensive international network of more than 1,200 active suppliers and dedicated logistics team who facilitate the movement of more than 26,000 containers per annum providing alternative sources and supply routes when normal channels come under pressure.

Redox USA’s growing reach across the United States, Canada and Mexico provides customers with more options when supply chains are disrupted or traditional supply routes come under pressure.

Being an effective partner for clients in chemical distribution means being fast when others are slow, being open when others are closed, adapting and changing when others are leaning on the same old suppliers. Customer requirements change, freight conditions tighten and products that were readily available can become difficult to source. When that happens, the value of an experienced distributor becomes much clearer.

The circumstances may vary, but the approach remains the same: understand the customer’s problem, assess the available options and find a practical way forward. Ultimately, success can be measured very simply—the product arrives when the customer needs it.
