We at Redox are excited to share that we have renewed our Chemical Educational Foundation’s Presidents Club membership. This is our way of supporting the CEF team’s efforts to promote chemistry education and raise awareness among students in grades K-8.

CEF’s You Be The Chemist programs uniquely connect business and education in local communities to reach students early in life and ignite a passion for chemistry and science-related careers.

Companies and individuals in the science and chemistry industries have invested in You Be The Chemist since 1989, to inspire young students into a lifelong passion for these fields. Programs are implemented in partnership with schools and education programs so activities align with local workforce and learning needs.

Nick Osmo, General Manager, North America, said, “I believe fostering curiosity into STEM at an early age is essential. We want our youth’s innate curiosity to overcome any intimidating aspects that otherwise might deter them so that these powerful subjects become enduring areas of interest, study and eventually a career and passion.”

In today’s world, where science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are crucial for the future workforce, high school and post-secondary students often receive the most attention in terms of preparation.

However, it is essential to realise that igniting a passion for science at a young age, even as early as five years old, significantly enhances the likelihood of engaging students in learning and ultimately pursuing careers in STEM fields.

CEF’s outstanding program, You Be the Chemist, is dedicated to this cause. It offers educators many educational resources, including activity guides and workshops. Additionally, the program hosts an annual academic competition at the local, state, and national levels, inviting students in grades 5-8 to compete for scholarships and prizes.

The impact of CEF’s You Be the Chemist program is evident in the remarkable outcomes it has achieved.

The You Be the Chemist program continues to serve as a bridge between businesses, educational institutions, and young students, demonstrating the immense potential of chemistry to create a better world.

As the world becomes more conscious of environmental and social issues, sustainability has become a critical factor for businesses. In the modern era, companies that fail to prioritise sustainability will likely fall behind their competitors. The pressure is also mounting from consumers and stakeholders who demand greater transparency in sustainability practices.

The sustainability of trading partners is now a crucial aspect of business. It is no longer enough to focus solely on one’s own sustainability efforts; companies must ensure that their partners share their values and practices. This means businesses must take a more comprehensive approach to sustainability by considering the impact on their supply chain.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been a focus for Redox as we strive to be responsible business leaders. This ethos extends to how the company conducts business, interacts with stakeholders, and contributes value to society.

By working with EcoVadis, Redox has taken an essential step towards promoting sustainable business practices and contributing to a more sustainable future.

In September of this year, Redox achieved certification with FAMI-QS after being certified by DNV Business Assurance Australia Pty Limited.

What is FAMI-QS?

The ultimate goal of this Code of Practice is to ensure feed safety by minimising unsafe practices and the risk of hazardous ingredients entering the food chain. Animal feed is considered unsafe for its intended use if it is likely to pose a risk to (has adverse effect on) human or animal health, or if the food derived from food-producing animals is unsafe for human consumption.

The FAMI-QS code of practice provides requirements for implementing measures necessary to ensure animal feed safety and quality of products manufactured by processes, as defined by FAMI-QS. The code covers requirements on good manufacturing practices, on the HACCP programme and suggestions on continuous improvements to the design, management of operations and risks with a goal of maintaining feed safety and quality.

The scope of FAMI-QS is specialty feed ingredients. A specialty feed ingredient is defined as any intentionally added ingredient, not normally consumed as feed by itself, whether or not it has nutritional value, which affects the characteristics of feed or animals/animal products and animal performance.

FAMI-QS certification and what is covered by FAMI-QS

The Feed Chain Activities covered by FAMI-QS are Production – The processes and methods used to transform tangible inputs (raw materials, semi-finished goods) and intangible inputs (information, data) into goods and Trade – The action of buying, handling, storage, transporting and selling goods and services.

For more information on production processes covered by FAMI-QS certification, please read more here

There’s no dispute that STEM and STEAM skills are vital in children’s education. That’s why every November 8 since 2015, National STEM/STEAM Day illuminates science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Encouraging children to advance in these fields will crucially support the country’s backbone — and it’s future.

National STEM/STEAM Day is the perfect opportunity to explore these topics and get children excited about learning.

Here are some fun ways to celebrate:

How to Celebrate National STEM/STEAM Day

Indulge the Inner Inventor

Kids are natural inventors. They’re always looking for ways to solve problems and make their mark on the world. STEM/STEAM skills give them the tools they need to turn their ideas into reality.

Through the power of invention, kids learn to take risks with their choices. They use their powers of critical thinking, partnership with others, problem-solving, and reasoning skills to delve forward and achieve results. STEM learning is an excellent way for kids to develop these skills while having fun.

On National STEM/STEAM Day, encourage your child to let their creativity run wild.

Visit a Museum…Virtually

STEM education is vital to preparing the next generation of innovators and leaders. STEM learning helps students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

On National STEM/STEAM Day, museums offer a variety of programs that engage young learners in STEM concepts. These programs are designed to spark curiosity and inspire a love of learning.

Many locations also offer free movies, guided digital tours, and webcasts and seminars to allow students to integrate with STEM learning efforts from afar.

Teach the Real World

STEM learning is all about problem-solving and critical thinking, so it’s essential to make sure your child is engaged and excited about the material.

One way to do this is by using games and puzzles focusing on STEM concepts. Not only will your child be having fun, but they’ll also be learning critical STEM skills.

All STEM/STEAM-based projects focus on the crux of developing thoughtful solutions for real-world concerns. A key for students, these projects allow them to see and experience the impact of what they’ve learned.

STEM Day

By studying STEM, you can learn how to make the world a better place. With a STEM education, you might be the one to find the solutions to the world’s problems.

Improve with Art

Developing artists whose creativity extends beyond the realms of fantasy find encouragement to build on their skills by creating fresh STEM projects that unite technology with art.

STEM offers artists a chance to explore new dimensions in their work, and to create something that is both functional and beautiful. By combining art and STEM, artists can bring their vision to life in ways that were once impossible.

In 2021, Redox established a philanthropic relationship with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, to support their urgent work worldwide. Our support allows Médecins Sans Frontières teams to react to emergencies and give high-quality care to those who need it most.

Who are Médecins Sans Frontières, and what do they do?

In 1971, in the aftermath of the Biafran famine of the Nigerian Civil War, a small group of French doctors and journalists sought to expand access to medical care across national boundaries irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation.

To that end, the organisation emphasises “independence and impartiality” and explicitly precludes political, economic, or religious factors in its decision-making. For these reasons, it limits the funding received from governments or intergovernmental organisations. These principles have allowed MSF to speak freely concerning acts of war, corruption, or other hindrances to medical care or human well-being.

MSF exist to save lives by providing medical aid where it is needed most – in armed conflicts, epidemics, famines and natural disasters. These situations require a rapid response with specialised medical and logistical help.

But, they also run longer-term projects, tackling health crises and supporting people with the greatest need.

They currently have projects running in over 70 countries.

They are an independent, self-governed, non-profit organisation committed to addressing people’s suffering and providing medical care to help people survive catastrophic situations where communities and health structures may be overwhelmed.

Médecins Sans Frontières offers assistance based on need and irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation, guided by medical ethics and the humanitarian principles of independence, neutrality and impartiality.

How can you help?

Your support is crucial to their efforts to provide medical aid where it is needed most. If you’re able, we’d love it if you could contribute to helping them fulfil their mission and to save lives by providing medical aid where it is needed most.

There are a multitude of ways to assist, or you could simply click here to donate now!
