Product Focus – Growbags for optimal growth conditions

Supplied by Redox, Growbags provide crops with optimal growth conditions while also saving costs and providing growers with a sustainable solution, confronting the issue of water scarcity head on.

At Redox, our growbags provide two layers; a layer of coco pith at the top where fine dust is removed followed by a layer of coco chips 5-15cm at the bottom. This double layer ensures optimal growth conditions for crops including fast initial growth after planting, a horizontal rooting through the entire layer and uniform drainage. As such these coir growbags can be optimally controlled and used in various crops such as vegetables, flowers and soft fruit like strawberries.

These growbags save money due to their compact size which enables up to 17,000 growbags to be transported at once when using a forty foot container, meaning larger shipments and fewer costs. They provide economic value as they are able to be reused for other crops after initial cultivation, can be mixed and also used for soil improvement. The optimum conditions ensure less root disease as there are no more wet roots, saving money on associated expenses and fertilisers.

Due to their unique composition they are ideal for water scarce environments, with less influences from a dry climate to have affect because of the high water holding capacity. While they have minimum equal yield compared to stonewool, they exhibit up to 20% less water consumption, providing a more sustainable solution when using our most precious resource – water!

Redox presented with Australian Trusted Trader Globe

Redox was presented with the Australian Trusted Traders (ATT) globe earlier in June, welcoming Redox into the ATT scheme.

Redox directors Malcolm Perrins and Richard Coneliano, were recently invited to the 2019 Australian Trusted Trader Symposium, where they had the opportunity to engage and network with other members of the ATT scheme.

The ATT program reduces red tape for accredited Trusted Traders at the border and expedites the flow of their cargo in and out of Australia. As a Trusted Trader, this mean more peace of mind for Redox customers when purchasing, with faster supply and customs processing of our imported commodity and specialty ingredients.

The scheme has been a success due to the continuous development and inclusion of ATT benefits. Additional benefits were announced at this year’s Symposium including the Origin Waiver benefit, a Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) with Singapore and an MRA with Taiwan.

Product Focus - EcoPaXX® PA410 by DSM

EcoPaXX®, by DSM is a bio-based, high-performance polyamide (PA410) that offers outstanding performance across the board. Distributed by Redox, EcoPaXX® is primarily made from renewable materials, offering a wide range of properties, and available in various grades.

EcoPaXX® belongs to the family of long-chain polyamides, which offer exceptional performance in the most demanding of environments. That includes excellent chemical resistance, low moisture absorption, combined with a very high melting point up to 250ºC (highest of all bio-plastics) and a high crystallization rate typical for engineering plastics like PA66 and PA46.

It’s certified 100% carbon neutral from cradle to gate as validated by an independent third party. That means the amount of carbon dioxide emitted during the production of EcoPaXX® is offset by the amount absorbed in plant growth, and in particular by the riccinus communis; the tropical castor bean plant that makes up some 70% of EcoPaXX®.

EcoPaXX® can be processed on standard injection-moulding and extrusion machines. Its intrinsic fast crystallization helps ensure short injection-moulding cycle times. EcoPaXX® is available in a growing portfolio of grades suitable for a wide range of industrial applications and sectors including:

  • Automotive: Its combination of strength and stiffness, along with chemical and high heat resistance makes it especially ideal for demanding Under-the-Hood components and safety applications.
  • Electrical and Electronics: It includes a range of dedicated grades featuring low moisture absorption, high dimensional stability and UL-flammability rating. That includes stiff and tough materials for frames in handheld devices like mobile phones; as well as halogen-free flame retardant materials for use in connectors, low voltage switchgears, and other power distribution applications.
  • Consumer goods, sport and leisure: From skiing gear to zips and fasteners, manufacturers are looking to produce lighter, smarter and greener designs that meet the needs of modern consumers. EcoPaXX® fits the bill nicely.

Royal DSM is a purpose-led global science-based company in Nutrition, Health and Sustainable Living. DSM is dedicated to the development of innovative solutions and collaborations that contribute to a circular economy, representing nature and the circle of life.

Our Future World: Going, going…gone?

According to the CSIRO Our Future World report the megatrend ‘Going, going…gone?’ is concerned with the perilous situation of the world’s ecological habitats and biodiversity where impacts have resulted in more consumption, the decline in habitats, plant species and animal species, increased greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. This trend also explores positive changes and a possibly bright future as whilst the state of biodiversity is in decline, the pressure for change and human response is increasing.
