As one of the key mega trends that Redox monitors we are bridging the gap between the world’s premier ingredient manufacturers and stock feed producers throughout Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and the United States. At Redox we employ Animal Nutritionists to help farmers and companies sustain animal health and well-being. We spoke to Yumin Bao about a day in the life of a Redox Animal Nutritionist.

How does Redox fit into the industry?

We provide technical support and sound advice based on what products are beneficial to the customer to reduce feed costs and improve animal performance. We work with both large companies and individual farms who would like to grow their business.

What is your role at Redox?  What are your key responsibilities?

I’m responsible for technical support regarding all amino acids, minerals, trace minerals, fibres and fat for animal nutrition including poultry, swine, dairy or beef cattle, aquaculture and companion animals, like dogs and cats. My role is to understand animal products, evaluate sites and make suggestions based on Redox products or potential products. So typically I will visit a site, undertake an analysis and provide recommendations on what products would be beneficial.

How has your employment with Redox influenced your career?

Redox is an amazing company, enabling my role to be challenging and exciting. Although I have experiences in both research and commercial companies, Redox provides more opportunities to touch and learn about different products and animal species to better meet customers’ requirements.

What are the misconceptions about Animal Nutrition?

Most people might expect that after one customer’s visit, customers will start to buy and our sales will increase. However, this is not true. In most instances, I will not talk about our products at all but only create opportunities for us to meet our customers to discuss their animal nutrition needs. I focus on the long term relationship to better help both Redox and the customer.

What is on your wish list for the next ten years in regards to your career with Redox?

I would say it is challenging for me over the next ten years. I plan to identify two specific products or solutions to provide globally; write and publish at least five peer reviewed papers and undertake ten university projects about animal nutrition; fully understand and provide ten products with relative technical solutions; and aim to have gradually installed feed formulation software for swine, poultry and ruminant animals.
